Construction Project Management department Featured Professional Introduction
Project Management Profession

Henan University of Urban Construction’s Project Management degree was formally established in 2002, along with the Engineering Management major. Professor Zhang Hongli is the leader of the professional construction discipline and has overseen the growth and development of the department over the past ten years.

The program trains the students in civil engineering technology and project management related to construction and engineering and aims to deliver graduates who are highly skilled, have a strong knowledge base and readily applicable practical and professional skills.

Major professional subject courses on this program include: engineering drawing, mechanical construction, housing and architecture, reinforced concrete and masonry structures, building construction technology, architecture CAD, economics, engineering economics, management theory, project management, project feasibility studies and assessment of project cost management, organization and progress of construction management, project quality management, project risk management, construction project information management, project bidding and contract management, database technology and applications, operations research, accounting, financial management, building regulations and project evaluation.

By incorporating whole-student development, academic and professional skills development and fostering links with industry, HUUC’s programs in Construction and Engineering Project Management are able to offer an engaging and challenging course to students and produces graduates with the knowledge and professional skills required for tomorrow’s jobs market.

Water Supply and Sewerage Project

Water Supply and Sewerage Project is one of the first departments of the University to be founded and offers two of the longest running degree programs in the construction discipline. After substantial development across the decades, these have come to be amongst the key program areas of the university – in a leading position amongst universities in Henan and with good national standing amongst comparable institutions.

The Water Supply and Sewerage program has been marked by cooperation between the school and enterprise; merging industry, study and research into an organic whole. It also actively seeks to include professional application and industry concerns in its teaching content and delivery.

The 24 existing staff teaching on the program including 12 professors and associate professors, 5 of whom have a PhD with a further 2 in reading. Full-time teachers with a master's degree compose more than 54.2%. The age composition was reasonable(fig 1).  Over the past two years staff have published over 80 articles in a variety of academic journals and won provincial and municipal scientific research prizes.

Through many years of teaching practice and exploration and based on Water Supply and Sewage Engineering features and social needs,it is characterized by "322" school system-the three models, the two skills, two abilities.

  • The three models are school-enterprise cooperation, undergraduate tutorial and school and after school combination.
  • The two skills are two professional skills of small town's municipal building and the water environment.
  • Two abilities are practical application ability and innovation.
