The School of Foreign Languages was founded in 2002 and delivers the university’s undergraduate language degree program: Applied English. The school also undertakes the task of teaching foreign languages to undergraduates across the whole university.
The school is rich in teachers, with a faculty of 60. It draws support from its large number of distinguished experts and scholars who have scored impressive academic results in the fields of English and American literature, translation theory and practice, English linguistics, comparative literature and intercultural communication studies.
Each year, the school invites two or more scholars from the UK, America, Australia, Canada, and the Commonwealth of Independent Countries to teach on its degree program. The school emphasizes teaching quality and academic research and its major task is to train students comprehensively with the high levels of capability needed for a competitive employment market or further study. More than 60% of the English majors passed the entrance examination to postgraduate schools in 2004. The Faculty also takes an active part in training cadres from administrative units across Henan province, directors of large and middle-sized enterprises and staff members whose work is concerned with foreign affairs. It has contributed greatly to the local and the national economic development.
